The Channel 7 Children’s Research Foundation has been supporting the researchers of South Australia for over 40 years by providing grants to advance the knowledge, capability and outcomes of South Australia’s world-class research organisations in the fields of children’s health, education and welfare.
Today, it is especially committed to building knowledge and capability in the critical areas of child protection, mental health, the effects of obesity and understanding the impacts that social determinants have on a child’s life. Community-based studies, clinical studies, or basic science projects are also supported.
In 2016 a partnership was established between the Channel 7 Children’s Research Foundation, SAHMRI and the University of Adelaide’s Robinson Research Institute to appoint International Human Genetics expert, Professor Jozef Gécz, as the inaugural Chair for the Prevention of Childhood Disability.
In this role, Professor Gécz, who was named South Australia’s Scientist of the Year in 2019, leads a comprehensive multi-disciplinary research program in Adelaide, focused on defining the origins and early diagnosis of childhood disability.
