Overview:

Aboriginal children are over-represented in child protection systems. Understanding the complexity of Aboriginal families requires much more than systemic measures of notifications and admissions into out-of-home care. We will use the Capability Approach which highlights capabilities required for well-being and citizenship to understand how Aboriginal communities can build on their strengths to keep their children safe. This project will seek the voices of Aboriginal children and families who have experienced trauma, to co-design culturally appropriate and effective outcome measures capturing capabilities required for children’s safety and family well-being. These measures can guide child protection practice with Aboriginal families and communities.
